Beginning with Ingeborg Bachmann's story Undine geht (Undine is leaving) I tried to present Undine's character as basically ambivalent. Seeking close contact, avoiding contact, she keeps on withdrawing into her very own – incomprehensible – medium, water. I was interested in associating Undine's ambitions with equally floating movements – optical and acoustic – without a beginning and without an end. (Annebarbe Kau)
