VIDEONALE.7

Foreword of the VIDEONALE.7 catalogue (excerpt)

Being that this festival for international video art came to life over twelve years ago, the birth of the Videonale is closely tied to the development of video as an art form. Like all of its past festivals, the seventh Videonale serves as a forum for the work of artists from all over the world. Still, the video tape as medium moves back and forth between the poles of being an outstanding artistic achievement, an experiment which is critical of the media, and an art which does not allow itself to be taken advantage of. [...]

As during past festivals, the Bonner Kunstverein, where the exhibition "In Etappen" will be presented, is the festival's center. Contemporary video art from Japan will be shown at the Kunstmuseum der Stadt Bonn in collaboration with the Videonale. Together with the ifa-Galerie Bonn, contemporary Croatian art, Zagred showing a retrospective of video tapes, Croatian video art will be well-represented this year. The Bonner Entwicklungswerkstatt für Computermedien will, once again, be the locatian of a media performance with a dance scenario from the series "Observation Suite". Also, the Bonner Kinemathek will show the prize winners and other works from the video tape program during a special event. [...] ( Rosanne Altstatt & Catrin Backhaus)
